The City of Larned has purchasing arrangements with Midwest Energy and the Grandriver Dam Authority, with the diversity of these resources combined with the city's ability to generate it's own energy needs. This allows the city to provide competitvely priced electricity, as well as reliable electric service to all it's customers. With the help of seven full time staff, it has the capability to generate around 16 megawatts of electricity..These employees maintain and operate 6 diesel generators. Maintaining these facilities not only allows the city access to low cost non-firm energy, but it also ensures 100% backup in the event of a transmission system failure, which would block access to the energy source from outside the city.
